Storytelling Sunday - All is not lost.

Good morning & welcome to the June edition of Storytelling Sunday - my precious. A wonderful story sharing day created by Sian Fair.
Today I wanted to show you a gift I received during the Christmas of 2009. As a family we tend to put together present bags for each other full of little bits we are sure the recipient will love & this was in mine.
I knew from the start it was from my Mum as we both have a thing for tins (!) & will often buy biscuits just for the tin... but thats another story!
The real treasure was it's contents...
...all her Guide badges off her camp blanket including her Queens Guide badge. I too am a Queens Guide & I was honoured & speechless by this thoughtful gift. The plan was to put her badges on my camp blanket with mine.
But in the turmoil that occurred 2 weeks later with our house fire, this little tin & contents were totally forgotten about & to be honest I thought like a lot of our possessions that they were gone for good but by some miracle they survived & resurfaced nearly a year later when we were still sorting through boxes, in almost pristine condition.
This photo shows my Mum in uniform being presented with her Queens Guide Award.
Many thanks for reading my story & next month I plan to continue on a similar theme ;)
Hop on over to Sian's blog to read lots more wonderful stories x

  4. Sheena, I just love this! what a fabulous collection of badges. You know, the more I come here, the more I think: Sheena and I would have plenty to talk about in real life :) Wasn't that uniform really something? I know today's sweatshirts are handy, but they don't really look the same at all!

  9. Hi Sheena,

What a wonderful story, and I am so glad you still have them despite the fire. The photo is a great treasure too, have you scrapped it yet? I am also a Queen's Guide, but I don't have a photo from my presentation, do you have one of your own ceremony?

  10. I'm so glad to read that these survived the fire - what a wonderful treasure (or treasures!) to have! (My hubby and I laugh that we have a "box addiction" because we'll often pick up items in tins or boxes because we like the container!)

  15. Thank goodness they were in a tin, and not a wooden box!! I too like to buy tins, especially old ones, but I don't always have a use for them...I just like to 'have' them!! Love the photo of you Mum receiving her award! :)
