Wet Bank Holiday...

In typical British style it rained here all day yesterday!
So we headed to Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery & Museum for a little culture. The Lady Godiva exhibition is always worth a visit to remember our cities folklore.

Also they have an Egyptian exhibit till the end of this week which I really wanted the children to see before we go out there in the summer.

So not only did we have a good afternoon out it was also totally free including the parking :)

plus a fabulous cake
with 80 candles !!

It was great to catch up with some

Mollie makes & other Mags...

I picked a copy of Mollie Makes magazine
in our local Sainsburys
after seeing it mentioned on Facebook.
I was pleasantly surprised by
the mix for crafts & articles it had to offer
plus beautiful photograpy.
I certainly will be taking up their offer
of 3 issues for £5.

Also there was a sweet free gift
to make on the front.
I had planned to make something similar to the picture
except yesterday I had a poorly sick girl at home
who persuaded me to make it for her
to take her phone to big school in september.
How could I refuse !
So as you can see the finished article
is nothing like the original
but I have one very happy 11 year old.
( the skull was hand cut after checking out some images on the net)

I'm not a big magazine reader
preferring internet sites & blogs
for ideas & inspiration
but now thats 3 I've bought in the last few weeks,
lets see if I make anything from them
watch this space.

Scooter made for 2

ScrapaGoGo's May Kit
Over the Hills & Far Away
was just perfect for this photo
of Eileen & I
at the Making Memories stand
at CHA last january.

The free hybrids
designed by Kirsty Wiseman
go so beautifully.

I used the Jillibean Soup Corrugated clouds
as masks & dry brushed over them with white paint
to create the background.

It's that time of year...

... when school children take their exams.

Here we have had sats & end of year exams before
but this is the first time we have had GCSE's.

I do remember sitting mine
in the dim & distant past !
When a C grade was a pass !
Now all people seem to care about is how many A's
or A*'s have been achieved.
When did this change ?

I sincerely hope my kids do their best
on the day
and that is good enough by me.
These results may effect the path they take in life
but they will be the ones to shape this journey.
If I could give them one wish for their future...
... it would be to be happy.

A day in the life...

... of Hoot !!

I love a sketch as a form of inspiration
& when I saw this one on
Create & Co's crop blog,
I remembered these fab photos my friend
Eileen had taken of the owl
I'd made for her as a gift.

The papers are My Minds Eye- Fine & Dandy.
Alphas- Thickers & My little shoebox.
Assorted ribbons.
Bazzill -Just the edge strip.

I made the layered star embellishments with 3 punches
to echo the patterned paper.

The cloud embellishment was ready made by My Minds Eye.
Thanks for looking :)

Future career ?

For this weeks Team A DT sketch
I chose to use a photo
of my daughter to show the Twist - Play.
She loves these Harumika dress forms
she got for her birthday
and spends hours designing new outfits
with them.

I wonder if this will lead somewhere ?
She already has an interest in clothes & fashion,
so we will have to wait & see.

Patterned papers, stickers & crochet circles
are all Websters Pages- Trendsetter.
Dress form cut using Tim Holtz Sizzix die.
Jenni Bowlin vellum butterfly.
Prima pebble.
Alphas- Thickers & October Afternoon.

If you use the Twisted Sketches
leave me a link as I'd love to see your take on them x

I (heart) sketches...

Over on ScrapaGoGo's ClubHouse
you are never short of inspiration.

This is May's Blueprint To Go Sketch
and I loved it so much that I produced 2 Lo's
inspired by it with May's kit.
"Over the Hill and Far Away".
No.1 Favourite

For this Lo I've rotated the sketch
so the focus is in the bottom right corner.
Featuring my most favourite sweets ever
peanut M & M's !
Love the limited edition pastel colours
they made them in for Easter !

Blow.

Here I just flipped the sketch
so the focus was in the top right corner.
This is a simple Lo
made with kit leftovers I didn't want to waste.
Bubbles created with pearl paint & bottle tops.

Sketches are so versatile ,
why not try turning it or flipping them
for completely different looks.

I was just thinking ...

no jokes please !!
I get enough of that off the kids !

This post isn't really connected with the TV show
but I wanted an image
& I liked this one !

I was away at the weekend
scrapping :)
and was lucky enough to catch up with old friends
plus make loads of new ones too.

I just love this hobby of mine
for getting me meeting people I'd otherwise have never met.
I've made some life long friends this way
who enrich my life
more than they know.
This weekend was no exception
I met some amazing & talented ladies
I know I will be speaking to again.

Angry Birds !!

When I first saw one of these on Sarah Youde's blog
I knew I had to make one for my son Dan !
What I didn't bargin on
was everybody wanting one !!

So here are the 3 I've made so far using my new sewing machine
I ordered at the Hobbycraft Show in march.

Don't they look cute even when they are angry !!

The free pattern can be found here
I can see me making some of the other birds too
when I track down the right coloured fleece.

A patriotic 100th sketch !!

To celebrate 100 Twisted Sketches
both DT teams produced Lo's
from this weeks sketch
with the Twist- Celebrate.
Go take a look, there is a prize draw
if you comment.

I wanted to scrap a Lo to remember the Royal Wedding
and this photo of Harriet
with a Regal cupcake from
our wedding tea was perfect.

I've used the remains of my ScrapaGoGo
July 2010 The Village Fete Kit
which was perfect plus some extra ribbon.

The bunting was stamped and embossed using the ScrapaGoGo
July 2010 stamp and Zing embossing powder.

On this day ... 1993

we were married !
Just like today the weather was ok
but very breezy
which played havoc when wearing a veil !

So 18 years on
we are both a little older and a little wiser,
still enjoying life together.

For Paul I painted a little canvas with techniques
I've learnt on the "she art" course
Paul gave me a glass heart &
a tile by Rob Ryan
who is probably my most favourite paper artist.
If you've not seen his work please go take a look.

Blast from the past !
one of our wedding photos to make you smile.

ScrapaGoGo Blog Hop

Welcome, welcome
to ScrapaGoGo's
National Scrapbooking day Blog Hop.
Big Hi to all who have joined us from Rebekah's blog.

On a day like today-NSD
it makes me think why I scrapbook...
I love the creative outlet,
I like telling stories
but most of all I love the concept of future generations
getting to know me & my family
through the pages I make.

Who's that Girl ??

When I look at this photo
I know who the babies are.
My Dad & his twin sister.
But the Lady ??
I've no clue & there is nobody left to ask :(

I don't know all my ANCESTORS
but hopefully through scrapbooking
future generations of my family
will know theirs.

Please leave a comment about why you scrapbook
to be entered into a prize draw.
Time now to hop on over to Sarah's blog x

Scooter Girl...

ScrapaGoGo's May kit
Over the Hills & far Away
was just perfect for scrapping these photos
of Harriet.
She had received a scooter for Xmas 2005
& was desperate to try it out.
So we got her all kitted out in coat & hat
& off she went up & down the garden path.
I wasn't a scrapbooker then
so the photos are pretty poor
but by cropping them & printing them small
they still convey the fun Harriet had.

Along with the create kit
I've used the Go to Pieces add on
which includes the Maya Dd chipboard tags, kraft journalling spots
and the Studio Calico pink patterned flowers.

The arrows are this months add on stamp
& the hybrids co ordinate beautifully too.

Twisted Sketches 99

This week it was the turn of the
A team to take on the new sketch.
The twist is Straight.

It totally reminded me of a visit to Warwick castle
years ago when Matthew lay down on the rack
as if hoping to be stretched !!
The photo isn't great
but boy does it remind me of that day out.

Hope this straightens you
out Son !!

Patterned papers by October Afternoon & Basic Grey.
Stickers Cosmo Cricket & Jillibean soup
Alphas Jenni bowlin & Cosmo Cricket.

Next sketch will be sunday
when we celebrate 100 Twisted Sketches.

Month in Review...

I'm surprised every month
by just how much I manage
to cram on these little 6x6 pages
for ScrapaGoGo's month in review challenge.

These document April for the family.
Highlighting Daniel's school leavers prom !
how grown up he is.

The smaller photos cover
scout camp, Easter,theatre trip
spring, bike rides & a Royal trifle !

The ScrapaGoGo exclusive hybrids are ideal
for adding small embellishments
to these pages.
Till next month...
